Welcome to my classroom!
Inspiration… it’s starts as a spark and consumes all that is near. In education it’s easy to loose this concept of inspiration, to let it be snuffed out amidst the trials, tribulations, and bureaucracy that goes with educating the minds of the future. In rare places you get a glimpse of people who are keeping this spark alive. I have always thought of Holy Family as one of these places. This rare gem has produced some of the most amazing minds in our community. Children who attended this school have gained amazing knowledge and skills that have allowed them to thrive in higher education. It is this track record that led many of you to bring your children here.
As an educator I see this amazing place and I just want to jump with excitement that I get the opportunity to be a part of such a remarkable institution. My name is Heather Moore and I am the Spanish teacher new at Holy Family. I just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and provide you with my background in education and plans for the future school year.
In my opinion the thing that makes a teacher great is extensive knowledge of the content that they teach, and the ability to design engaging curriculum that invokes thought and reason. I can attribute my success in these areas to the University of Kentucky, where I was among some of the greatest minds and researchers in the field of history and social sciences. My Masters degree, which I also received from the University of Kentucky, showed me how to take those facts and present them in a way that is interesting and engaging. After graduation I took a job as the Education Director for the Paramount Performing Arts Center, this was where my love of the Arts and history blended and helped me see that history can come to life and inspire minds in a ways that no textbook ever will. I took this knowledge to the classroom at East Carter Middle School, where I have worked for the past four years teaching 8th grade US history. Here I have grown tremendously as an educator, understanding the importance of multicultural awareness and historical inquiry. Last year I had an opportunity to teach history to the middle school students here at Holy Family. It was such an honor, and I enjoyed every minute. This year its all about SPANISH!!
My approach to teaching has been tested and tried in the world of public education. I strive to create a learning environment that is a blend of creativity and skill and drill learning. I think the best classes are the ones that provide you with a strong foundation of knowledge and then spark an interest in a topic that leads to a higher level of learning. Creation and innovation play a distinct role in my classroom and help to foster an environment where every student is in expected to master the content.
I cannot wait to work with you this coming school year. I see the limitless opportunities for Holy Family and I feel so privileged to be a part of its further expansion.
